Aim:
During
the two days topics explored are: Take a Look at Yourself, Show Me the
Gatekeeper, The Difference Between Two Worlds and Lets Swim Up Stream
DAY
ONE
Session
1: Take a Look at Yourself (Self Analysis)
Is
designed to provide participants with an awareness of ART's Aboriginal
Terms of Reference and will provide:
- An
opportunity to take a look at the way you work with Aboriginal people
- Look
at where you have connected with and how you can progress that
connection with the Aboriginal Community
- Gain
an understanding of ATR'S (Aboriginal Terms of Reference) or ways of
doing things.
- Exposure
to a number of tools that can be used to assist you work through your
position in a positive way
- The
opportunity to share own experiences and practice wisdom
Session
2: Show Me The Gatekeeper (Observing
Cultural Protocols)
Is
designed to provide participants with an awareness and understanding of
Aboriginal Terms of reference (ATR's) when observing cultural protocols.
The
workshop will provide:
- An
opportunity to be introduced to Aboriginal Ways of communication through
using ears, eyes and heart.
- An
awareness of the use of non-verbals and what they are (use of actions
with hands).
- An
opportunity to reflect on the way you entered the Aboriginal community
to gain access to work with their members, sharing how you found the
Gate Keeper.
- Gain
an understanding of ATR”S (Aboriginal Terms of Reference) or ways of
doing things.
- Exposure
to a number of tools that can be used to assist you work through your
position in a positive way
- The
opportunity to share own experiences and practice wisdom
DAY
TWO
Session
3: The Difference Between The Two Worlds (Acknowledging Cultural Uniqueness)
Is
designed to provide participants with an awareness of the differences
between the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal ways.
The
session will provide:
- An
opportunity to take a look at the way you work with Aboriginal people
- Gain
an understanding of ATR”S (Aboriginal Terms of Reference – Aboriginal
Ways of doing things) and how to interface them into your work practice
in a practical way.
- Exposure
to ways you use the tools that you have to assist you work through your
position in a positive way.
- The
opportunity to share own experiences and practice wisdom
- An
opportunity to hear stories from Josey and an elder and their experiences
of the differences between the two worlds.
Session
4: Let's Swim Up Stream (Getting it right)
Is
the final session, designed to provide participants with the basic skills
to work with Aboriginal people. This highly experiential workshop will
expose participants to a unique culture through pictures, photo's and
story telling. Participants will explore their own way of working and
look at other ways to work alongside the Aboriginal community. This workshop
is designed to provide participants with a greater awareness of the impact
that past policies have had on the Aboriginal Communities.
The
session will provide:
- An
opportunity to gaze back over the past
- Check
out how we're travelling today and map out a path that will ensure that
tomorrow isn't just another yesterday.
- Gain
an understanding of how past policies have impacted upon the Aboriginal
Communities.
