Understanding and working with emotional abuse.  What to look out for the difficulties of definition in therapeutic application, and working effectively with this particular form of abuse.

What is this workshop about?

Emotional abuse can be as equally damaging for clients as some of the more overt forms of abuse such as physical and sexual abuse; the difference between these forms of abuse is that there are no recognisable external scars from emotional abuse. Understanding the complexities of emotional abuse and gaining clarity by defining emotional abuse accurately is imperative for effective practice. In this one day workshop participants will explore the effects of emotional abuse and discuss how to work effectively in therapeutic intervention by identifying and using skills essential for practice.

This workshop will provide the participants with the opportunity to develop knowledge in:

• Uncovering emotional abuse
• Definition/s of Emotional Abuse and gaining clarity for effective intervention
• Dealing with Transference, Countertransference and Couple Transference issues
• Working effectively with clients to address emotional abuse

About the Presenter:   

Vanda Francké is a Social worker with extensive experience in the area of Family and Domestic Violence Services. She has been involved in the initial development of counselling services for victims of violence; developing strategies for early intervention into family and domestic violence, training for community services within this framework; working with perpetrators of family and domestic violence. Vanda is currently the Coordinator of family and domestic services at KinWay.
