Assertive Communication

Guarded, hostile or ineffective communication styles can disable relationships. Assertiveness is about maintaining your own rights without doing violence to the other person's rights. Learn the verbal skills to ask for what you want, say no when you need to and express your feelings.

At the completion of the Assertive Communication workshop participants will have:

  •  Discussed and explored speaking and listening skills
  •  Practiced listening reflectively to the feelings of others
  •  Identified submissive, aggressive and assertive behaviours
  •  Composed 3-part assertive messages
  •  Explored four behavioural styles and their impact on relationships
  •  Differentiated between win/win and win/lose approaches to conflict
  •  Reviewed a 6-step conflict resolution model
  •  Practiced handling defensiveness
