Victims of Crime Support Services

Help for victims of crime

The program provides support for victims of crime, including counselling, assistance with settling back into life after a crime, and guidance through the court processes.

Court processes can be quite daunting. We can help people find out the status of their case before the courts, or the outcome of the case. If they have to appear as witnesses, we can prepare them for the process and support them through it, and we can liaise with police and the Director of Public Prosecutions.

We can help people with Violent Restraining Order applications, reports for criminal injury compensation, and Victim Impact Statements.

People can experience various degrees of trauma, feeling confused, disoriented or upset, when they have been on the receiving end of a crime. Victims of crime have the right to be treated with compassion and dignity, and to have access to any information about the legal processes relating to their case.

Volunteers deliver some of the services of the Victim Support Service. Volunteers are a wonderful resource. Properly trained, there is a lot they can do, including accompanying people to court and providing emotional and practical support.

These services are part of a network of Department of Justice services throughout Western Australia .
