Violence Victim Counselling Services
For
people who are at risk of or are experiencing domestic and family violence.
The
service aims to reduce the risk of domestic and family violence. We also
help heal the harm caused by violence.
Domestic
and family violence include:
- constant
humiliation
- being
called names that embarrass you
- being
spoken to as if you have no value
- threats
of taking the children or causing them or you harm
- killing,
injuring or giving away pets
- damaging
property that is sentimental to you or the children
- making
holes in walls with a fist or object
- restricting
your access to money or taking money
- preventing
you or a family member from going on outings or seeing friends or other
family members
- unwelcome
or enforced sex or sexual acts
- enforced
sex after an incident of violence
- punching,
hitting, pushing, kicking
- using
objects or weapons to inflict harm
Through
individual or group counselling, we help you to:
- understand
the nature of the violence you are experiencing
- develop
skills to deal with violence
- assess
your circumstances and life goals
- deal
with other aspects of your relationship
- improve
self esteem so you feel better about yourself
- make
decisions for present and future relationships
- devise
safety plans that will make you feel safer and be safer
