1. What is relationship counselling?

Counselling is for individuals, couples, families and children who are concerned about their relationships.

People who seek our help include those who:

• want to enjoy/improve/enhance their relationships
• have difficulties in their partner relationship (eg arguments, sexual differences, affairs)
• have difficulties in other relationships including work, friendships and extended family
• want help coming to terms with loss or grief
• are thinking of separating
• have separated and need assistance are thinking about re-marriage
• want to improve their parenting
• are experiencing difficulties in a stepfamily situation
• are experiencing major changes in their lives (eg redundancy, retirement)
• are experiencing violence in the family

2. Do we assist with parenting and child related issues?

We can provide you with information and/or arrange appointments for families/children as appropriate.

3. What happens in counselling?

Sessions last for approximately 50 minutes. Counselling sessions will concentrate on your concerns and how you can work to resolve them.

It is important for you to know that your counsellor will work in a way that specifically addresses your unique concerns.

4. Are counsellors qualified ?

All KinWay counselling staff have tertiary qualifications with many having post graduate qualifications. All staff are supervised and undertake ongoing training and professional development.

KinWay is approved by the Commonwealth Department of Family and Community Services (FaCS) to provide counselling services under the Family Relationship

Services Program (FRSP). The FRSP is jointly funded by FaCS and the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department.

5. Is counselling confidential?

All counsellors are bound by an Oath of Confidentiality in relation to counselling sessions. However, where there may be a threat to an individual's safety, adult or child, confidentiality may be waived.

6. Is there a fee?

KinWay is subsidised by the Commonwealth Government. We charge fees, based on a sliding scale. Cash, cheque, EFTPOS and credit cards are accepted.

If you can't attend

We ask that you give at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or postpone an appointment. A late postponement fee is charged for less than 24 hours notice.

Professional standards

In order to maintain a quality service we ask clients to regularly provide us with feedback on their experience with us.

The service also takes our client's concerns and complaints very seriously. If you have any concerns we ask you to telephone or write to the Executive Clinical Manager at our East Perth office.

Opening Hours

Offices are open during business hours and after hours up until 9 pm.

Child Care

Our centres do not provide child care facilities. If you need child care please discuss this with the receptionist.

KinWay cannot accept responsibility for children left unsupervised on the premises.

Transport & Parking

Please speak to the Bookings Officer if you require information regarding transport to the service or parking availability.

This is a unique service insofar as clients can book a regular weekly appointment with the same counsellor from any location in the state. It is more than a crisis or one off service.
