This workshop is designed to provide professionals with an understanding of the dynamics of family and domestic violence and apply theoretical concepts in their work with clients who present with issues of family and domestic violence. The workshop includes working within the framework provided by the State Government initiative Best Practice Models developed in 1995 for working with perpetrators and victims of domestic violence, and will be competency based, incorporating competency standards developed for Partnerships Against Domestic Violence.

 

What Will I Learn?

This workshop will provide participants with skills in the assessment and intervention of domestic violence. The workshop will introduce participants to the framework developed by the Duluth Abuse Intervention Project, Minnesota , including other effective theoretical frameworks, as well as introduce an effective case management model of practice. The workshop will provide:

 

•  An understanding of the dynamics and tactics of family and domestic violence;

•  A basic understanding of the theory to practice link with working effectively with both victims and perpetrators of family and domestic violence;

•  Experiential focus, based on competency standards developed by PADV

 

About the Presenter:

Vanda Francké is a Social worker with extensive experience in the area of Family and Domestic Violence Services. She has been involved in the initial development of counselling services for victims of violence; developing strategies for early intervention into family and domestic violence, training for community services within this framework; working with perpetrators of family and domestic violence. Vanda is currently the Coordinator of family and domestic services at KinWay.
