P.D. Calendar (PDF) Dates: 9, 10, 11, 17&18
April, 8, 9, 10, 16 & 17 October 2008 Time: 9:30am to 4:00pm Consisting of two modules, this program is designed to introduce and familiarize participants with a broad approach to the process of Family Dispute Resolution. In Module 1 participants will learn about an approach to family dispute resolution that invites disputants to explore their parenting roles in depth while working on a redefinition of their parenting partnership. The module begins with a review of the problem-solving approach to mediation before introducing other ways of working in a narrative and transformative way. It concludes with a consideration of ways in which participants can integrate these approaches in a new and comprehensive approach that accounts for disputing parents' emotional states and their desire to provide the best for their children following separation. Module 2 builds on the approach to consider specific issues including the Parenting Alliance Session, the inclusion of children in the work and an introduction to approaches to mediating financial matters.
Outcomes: At the end of this program, participants will:
Understand the special issues in working with culturally diverse clients in a family dispute resolution model Have an awareness of the role of family violence and child abuse in working with separating families and the importance of comprehensive assessment of these issues
